Facebook Ad Examples: A Guide to Creating Effective Campaigns

Facebook offers a wide range of ad formats, audience targeting options, and bidding strategies, all designed to help your ads accomplish your goals. However, it can be hard to stand out from the other ads, making exploring new ways to create effective Facebook Ad campaigns essential.

So to help you gain an advantage, let’s explore the best Facebook Ads examples and how you can use those examples to inspire your next campaign.

Facebook Ad Examples to Inspire New Campaigns

How can you craft new campaigns that grab Facebook users' attention and earn their clicks? It takes more than the right audience targeting and bidding strategy; you need compelling ad creatives to make an impact.

The right ad helps you stand out from your competitors. Below, you can see how Varos puts your conversion rate right alongside your peers so you can always stay ahead of the pack.

Let's dissect some of the best Facebook campaign examples to help inspire brand-new campaigns, whether you’re focusing on improving your conversion rate or spreading brand awareness.

1. Hello Fresh

Hello Fresh is one of the leading meal kit delivery businesses that experienced rapid growth through its paid social media ads. While they’ve explored a wide range of ad formats at this point, something that helped their initial success was the use of stop-motion videos.

Stop motion is a specific technique where the producer takes a picture, moves the object slightly, then takes another picture. The end result shows objects moving on their own.

Hello Fresh used this technique to show different ingredients becoming a recipe or spelling out specific words. Stop motion isn’t a new technique but wasn’t widely used in Facebook Ads.

The takeaway: You can certainly use stop motion in your ads, but the takeaway that makes this such a great Facebook Sponsored Ad example is taking a different approach to what consumers are used to seeing.

2. Calm

Calm is a meditation app that uses its core value proposition as part of its advertising. Some of its most effective Facebook ads simply challenged users to “Do nothing for X seconds.”

It was simple yet attention-grabbing and prompted many users to learn more about the app to help them relax and be mindful.

The takeaway: from Calm is to integrate your service or product into the ad itself. Of course, this won’t be possible for everyone, but if you offer a book, SaaS platform, or course, you use elements of your value proposition in your ads.

3. Lyft

People know Lyft, so what can the rideshare company do to earn new users who may have already passed on using their app?

Many of Lyft’s Facebook ads make a compelling offer, like “Get 50% off your first five rides.” The headline goes right to the point and makes the user consider trying out their app instead of the competitor.

The takeaway: Use Facebook to promote specific offers, limited-time sales, or new customer deals. Give users a compelling reason to check out your company, and be direct in the headline.

4. Athos

Athos sells a unique product combining athletic apparel and smart sensors that provide similar features as a smartwatch. Yet, the problem with selling such an innovative product is that people don’t even know what it is, so ads must clearly explain the Athos clothing line.

To solve this problem, Athos’ Facebook Ads are anything from static images to simple videos that demonstrate someone working out, the integrated app, and the benefits of the products.

The takeaway: The lesson from Athos is using simpler formats to explain a unique or complex product. Some of the best Facebook carousel ad examples are from Athos, who used this format to let users learn more as the images rotate.

How to Put These Examples To Work in New Campaigns

The takeaways from each of the above examples will help you consider new campaigns, but let's briefly tie them together to help you build your next Facebook Ad campaign:

  • Start by considering the overall goal: Do you want to increase Facebook Ad conversion rates or spread brand awareness? While there are other goals, most fall into these two categories. Above, we saw how Lyft was clearly going for conversions, while Clam was going for brand awareness. What’s best for your business?
  • Evaluate how to convey your value proposition: What’s unique about your business? Hello Fresh and Athos needed to convey what made them unique and create ads highlighting their value proposition. For example, you might not be innovating new technology or ways to eat healthy, but your ads should always make you stand out in the user's mind.
  • Create ads that stand out from the rest: Every example we discussed used the same formats as everyone else but used them creatively to grab people’s attention. For example, hello Fresh used stop motion to stand out, and Athos used carousel ads to teach people about their product.

Taking a high-level overview of a new campaign is essential before diving into the specific audience targeting and bidding strategies. The right creatives make all the difference in the overall success of your campaign.
